Last month, echo&bounce relocated from Winn Lane to a laneway tucked between a towering hospital carpark and a row of shops in Woolloongabba, adding further character to Meanjin/Brisbane’s record store roster in the process. It should be said, however, that with opening hours restricted to 12pm til late on Fridays and Saturdays, the place seems as much intended as a social space as a record store. DDR 011—courtesy of echo&bounce founder Ralphalfa—is constantly in search of room to move, brimming with emotive, atypical house music. Compiled mostly from old favourites only recently acquired on vinyl, the echo&bounce founder charts out a space before and beyond the hypnotic thud of the club floor, one that remains open to the ambient sounds of the evening streetscape, humming with anticipation.
