NICKY J
What clothing item do you find yourself constantly reaching for right now?
It’s got to be my Online Ceramics tee. I feel like it’s the perfect cut and weight heading in to summer. It also has a beautiful message and I love the tie dye colourway. I really like how it seems like the bear has a tonne of memories…almost as though he’s 1000 years old. Sometimes I feel like that as well.
What are you reading at the moment?
I’m currently reading Other Minds: The Octopus, the Sea, and the Deep Origins of Consciousness, by Peter Godfrey-Smith. Octopus’ are incredibly smart creatures, so I feel really guilty for eating Takoyaki in the past — they don’t deserve that.
What fictional place would you most like to visit?
Cars (2006) is one of my favourite movies, so I’d love to visit that universe. Living as a car in their world would be the coolest experience.
What are you looking forward to the most over the coming months?
I’m really looking forward to trying all of Lune’s monthly specials. This month’s Pea Danish hit a different note. I can’t stop thinking about the complexity of the flavours.

What’s your favourite way to spend your day off?
I’m a hedonist at heart, so I really love to treat myself on my days off — sleeping in, buying some flowers, and grabbing brunch is always a part of my weekend.
What are you looking forward to the most over the coming months?
I can’t wait to go to the beach. Growing up, my family would holiday at Peregian Beach over the summer, so heading to the beach is always so nostalgic for me. I love that feeling of getting home after you’ve been at the beach for the whole day, where you’re pretty sandy and look a little sunburnt, and then have a nap to finish off the arvo. Really feels like a holiday.
What are you reading at the moment?
Nicky J and Mike always rave about Dune in the office, so I decided to watch it the other day and it’s definitely become one of my favourite movies. I was so into it that I decided to start reading it! I’m only like 80 pages in and the story line already goes way deeper than the movie…I swear that half of the movie has already happened. I find their universe, as well as the Middle Eastern influence throughout the book just fascinating!
What clothing item do you find yourself constantly reaching for at the moment?
I absolutely love a chunky shoe. I’m obsessed with my platform Crocs at the moment. They’re fun and quirky and work with almost every outfit. Oh, and I love my Jibbitz.

What are you reading at the moment?
I’m reading My Place by Sally Morgan. It’s a really moving memoir about growing up as a person of colour in Australia. Sally’s voice is neither bitter nor angry, but still manages to highlight the endemic history of racism in Australia. I definitely recommend this book if you’re interested in learning more about the Aboriginal heritage that underpins Australian identity.
What are you looking forward to the most over the coming months?
A new couch. We sold our old one pretty quickly, so Simon and I have been using our Neighborhood camping chair in place of a sofa and we can’t wait to finally kick back and relax.
What’s something that you never leave home without?
I’m always running late, so to negate that, I have my bag ready to grab and go. Rummaging through it now, I have my keys, phone, coin purse, lip balm, hand sanitiser, hand cream, a reusable bag, and heat patches.
What fictional place would you most like to visit?
I’d love to visit The Land Before Time…because DINOSAURS!
