In just their second collection—and the first to be stocked at Double Double—Beach Brains show a heady combination of ambition and cohesiveness of vision. From their base in Auckland, the grunge and punk-influenced label take inspiration from an eccentric range of sources, from old Japanese tech magazines and 60s Californian newspaper clippings to death metal album covers and science fiction illustrations. “Take your brain to the beach” might refer to a virtual as well as a physical space, where the ebbs and flows might not be quite so relaxing, but offer just as much inspiration.
Inspired by the grunge musicians who brought it to anti-fashion prominence, the Beach Brains Gone Bush Oversize Plaid Shirt is the Auckland-based label’s take on the classic flannel.
