Few sneakers have had as monumental an influence as the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star. Though founded in 1917 with the intention of crafting the All-American basketball shoe, it was the arrival of semi-professional basketball player Charles “Chuck” Taylor at the company that revolutionised their trademark sneaker. Bearing Chuck Taylor’s seal of approval, from the 1920s to the 1970s, the Converse All-Star became the basketball shoe of choice for players all over. Sensing the appeal of the shoe off the court, in 1957 Converse launched the low-cut “Oxford” style shoe and began producing the All-Star in a number of colourways.
Inspired by the All-Star design that prompted the shoe’s adoption by disparate subcultures across the US and the world, Converse launched the Chuck Taylor All Star ’70 series in 2013. Incorporating heritage and innovation, the Chuck Taylor All Star ’70 Low pairs vintage features with contemporary detailing. Here in the seasonal “Sunflower” colourway, this shoe features heavier canvas construction, 1970 custom eyelets, and higher rubber foxing. Perhaps most importantly, the Chuck Taylor All Star ’70 Low sports the feature that made it most appealing to the basketball players and misfits of the 70s: a thick, cushioned sole.
