Since moving the label to Japan, Tokyo-based Boys Co Ltd have reinvigorated Danton, inflecting inherited 20th-century French workwear with contemporary Japanese style cues. Many of the label’s most recent collections riff on the label’s workwear pedigree, playfully engaging notions of work and leisure.
This season, the label expand on their range of canvas and nylon accessories with more durable bags that expanding the purview of workwear with innovative materials and features. Elsewhere, as usual, Danton’s workwear heritage is on full display with updated takes on overalls, collarless jackets and work pants among dresses and easy pants that integrate workwear details into everyday staples.
Bags and luggage have proved an enduring obsession for Japanese labels. With their origins in military accessories and history in 20th-century middle-America, in Japan, the canvas backpack and closely related pieces have undergone a transformation. Though attempted by many, few Japanese labels have achieved the level of refined simplicity in casual bag and luggage design as Danton.
Constructed from a soft yet durable light cotton canvas, the Danton Sacoche is a sleek and slender accessory piece, wearable over the shoulder or across the body. Here in the muted dark grey colourway, this bag features an adjustable strap; main compartment with zip closure and branded zip pull; internal sleeve pocket big enough for a wallet or other small accessories; and the embroidered Danton red diamond logo, appliquéd on the face.
