Few other streetwear and sneaker stores have experienced as meteoric a rise as Bodega. Founded in Boston in 2006, the store has gained prominence not just in the US, but around the world. In 20212, Bodega launched their own apparel line, for which collaboration would play a pivotal role.
This new shoe represents the second collaborative effort between Bodega and Dr. Martens, the first of which dropped early last year. Bodega have employed a similar approach with both shoes, subtly invigorating the classic 1461 oxford using a variety of different materials, no doubt influenced by Bodega’s intimate knowledge of sneaker construction.
True to their innovative use of juxtaposition, the Dr. Martens x Bodega II 1461 sees the Boston-based label employ materials of contrasting textures to great effect. The resulting shoe offers a stylish and functional take on the classic 3-eye silhouette.
Created in celebration of Bodega’s 15 years in operation, this reimagining of the 1461 features an upper crafted from three materials, all black, but creating contrast through texture. The black pebble leather vamp and quarter forms the backdrop for highlights of suede panelling around the heel, eyestay and tongue; and a rubberized toe cap constructed from Tectuff performance material.
This shoe also features black round laces; the word “hidden in plain sight” debossed on the heel; and two-tone brown and black Dr. Martens AirWair™ bouncing soles; classic Dr. Martens yellow stitching; and the iconic AirWair™ heel loop.
