Entitled ‘Source Material’ Franchise’s SS21 collection acknowledges the breadth of basketball and related ephemera that the label’s designers look to for inspiration. This range of apparel filters nostalgia for golden eras of the game and legendary players through a contemporary design lens. The results appeal far beyond the world of basketball—in fact, in a way they deny the possibility of delineating basketball culture from all the other subcultures and contexts with which it inevitably comes into contact.
In tandem with the Franchise Home Court Advantage Hat, the House Music Tee plays on the use of the word ‘house’ to refer to a team’s home court, linking this usage to the house music genre. Just as one’s home-court is a place of familiarity and support, so too has the club been such an environment, particularly for minorities as in the case of House music, founded by Black DJs in the late 70s and early 80s. Coming in a washed black colourway, this short-sleeve tee features ‘House’ wording screen-printed on the front in light blue and pink, a large ‘Acid Tracks’ graphic printed on the back, and a ribbed crew neckline.
