The ongoing series of collaborations between British cult label Fred Perry and avant-gardist Raf Simons has produced some of the most memorable celebrations of British subcultures in recent years. The two labels have made particularly inventive use of photographic prints from archival sources detailing the punk and ska subcultures of the 70s and 80s.
The provenance of this season’s graphic materials comes from the recently-published 100 Club Stories photobook produced by publisher Ditto in collaboration with Fred Perry. With a particular focus on the “100 Club Pink Special” — an event at the legendary London club where punk bands such as the Sex Pistols, The Clash, and The Damned made early appearances — the book evokes the energy of that crucial time in music history, identifying what made the space so special at that time without demystifying its legendary status.
The Fred Perry x Raf Simons Raf Printed Panel T-Shirt takes inspiration from the tradition of affixing patches to show subcultural allegiance, a practice that flourished in the London punk scene around the 100 Club. This relaxed-fit tee features two screen-printed patches on the chest adorned with photographs from the 100 Club Stories book project. Cut from soft cotton jersey, this tee also features a metal Fred Perry laurel wreath with an antique silver finish attached to the left patch; Raf Simons embroidery on the left sleeve; and a ribbed crew neckline.
Made in Portugal from 100% cotton.
