For Kowtow, ethical clothing does not simply mean more ethical supply chains, manufacturing, and labour conditions. Rather, such a commitment influences every aspect of the clothes that they make, including their designs. Against false notions of freedom, Kowtow embrace the restrictions of adhering to more ethical modes of design and production. The resulting garments are far from impeded, evincing anything from subtle elegance to structured grandiosity.
In their latest collection, the New Zealand label harness the power of block colours with floral patterns complementing the season’s lively palette. The label’s renowned knits take pride of place in this collection, adding texture and depth. Elsewhere, frills, stripes, and quilting add focal details to understated outerwear pieces and shirts that subtly adjust established shapes.
Cut from organic cotton canvas, the Faculty Pant is a mid-rise pant that clearly evinces the elegant lines for which Kowtow has become known. Here in the beautifully subtle seasonal ‘mist’ colourway, this fitted-waist pant features a tapered leg, front pleats, side seam pockets, a single back welt pocket, and a concealed zip fly with button closure.
