For Kowtow, ethical clothing does not simply mean more ethical supply chains, manufacturing, and labor conditions. Rather, such a commitment influences every aspect of the clothes that they make, including their designs. Against false notions of freedom, Kowtow embrace the restrictions of adhering to more ethical modes of design and production. The resulting garments are far from impeded, evincing anything from subtle elegance to structured grandiosity.
The Spring/Summer 2020/2021 collection from Kowtow takes inspiration from explorers and aviators such as Jeanne Baret, Bessie Coleman, Amelia Earhart, and Beryl Markham, among the first women to claim forms of mobility once restricted to men. Gosia Piatek’s label evokes these trailblazing figures through subtle shapes and details, as well as a seasonal colour palette drawn from the breathtaking natural wonders that these women were able to see with their own eyes, with deep blues, mahogany, olive, and marigold.
Constructed from 12 oz organic cotton denim, the Kowtow Worker Jeans are a wide-legged, mid-rise jean whose clear workwear-influenced appearance is softened by front pleats. These low-crotch jeans also feature rounded slant pockets, a single back patch pocket, and concealed zip fly.
This piece is dyed with Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) approved inks and dyes, and made in a transparent supply chain, with fair trade certified farmers and manufacturers from seed to garment. Finished with OEKO-TEX certified nickel-free tacks made in Germany. Made from 100% organic cotton.
