Maison Kitsuné are no strangers to expansion and diversification. Founded in 2002 as a record label, Kitsuné now operate the original record label, the ever-growing clothing brand, and a variety of cafés across three continents. Their next move, though only a physical step-up, could their biggest yet: onto the runway. As creative director Yuni Ahn engages increasingly daring designs, the conceptual vision necessary for runway fashion has begun to trickle down to the label’s off-the-rack collections.
If some of Maison Kitsuné’s pieces don’t attract too much attention, it’s because they have distilled unassuming Parisian cool to the point where their designs manifest a broader approach to style, rather than an individual vision. The people of Paris’s sense of style seems natural. It makes sense that a label embodying this style would also glide by without announcing itself. But get closer to Maison Kitsuné pieces, and one recognises the playful flourishes the brand has become known for.
With their range of pants, the label have pursued playfulness and versatility, making garments that can move between spaces; Kitsuné pants are wearable at the gallery in Le Marais, the party in Pigalle, and the metro ride and walk between the two. The Carrot Pants epitomize this approach. Crafted in Portugal from high-quality cotton garbadine, these chino-style pants feature a tapered leg with pressed pleats. Wearable across casual and more formal events alike, these black pants also feature a zip fly with button closure, belt loops at the waistband, side slant pockets, two back patch pockets with flap and button closure, and tonal Maison Kitsuné branded embroidery above the right back patch pocket.
