Maison Kitsuné are no strangers to expansion and diversification. Founded in 2002 as a record label, Kitsuné now operate the original record label, the ever-growing clothing brand, and a variety of cafés across three continents. Their next move, though only a physical step-up, could their biggest yet: onto the runway. As creative director Yuni Ahn engages increasingly daring designs, the conceptual vision necessary for runway fashion has begun to trickle down to the label’s off-the-rack collections.
The Maison Kitsuné Fox—the visual element that holds together the label’s ready-to-wear range—is also making moves. As the fox further cements its iconic status in the world of contemporary fashion, so too is it able to take new forms. Far from a hunter’s trophy head, recent iterations have introduced the fox as a full character, as the label carves out a world for their namesake mascot. Such experiments test the fox’s icon status, raising the question: how far can the label push the fox while ensuring that it remains instantly recognizable?
The Maison Kitsuné Women’s Velvet Fox Head Patch Sweat takes the classic fox head patch and reimagines it with a textural flourish, rendered in raised velvet on the chest of this classic crewneck sweatshirt in the black colourway. Cut from soft French terry fabric, this regular-fit women’s sweatshirt also features a ribbed crew neckline, cuffs, and bottom hem.
