When Daisuke Obana returned from his recent trip to the United Kingdom, he didn’t just bring back the histories of the punk subculture that influenced the collaborative Monk Shoe with Suicoke. He also absorbed histories of the early 20th century social conditions in which modern men’s clothing norms were forged. With the Panel Button Up Shirt he takes aim at the piece of upward mobility clothing par excellence.
The Panel Button Up Shirt is a result of this impulse to deconstruct garments whose history otherwise gets lost. With it, Obana deconstructs the shirt, literally undressing it with panel detailing that makes clear, a tongue-in-cheek reference to punk patchwork traditions.
Cut from two rayon-blend fabrics conceived of specifically for this piece, this Brown Check Panel Button Up Shirt features a formal, slim neckline and crisp collar; front button closure; curved hem; panel-detailed drop shoulder; and panel detailing at the sides and bottom hem.
With equal parts playful jabs at British manners and staggering attention-to-detail, N. Hoolywood push the shirt to its limits.
Made in Japan from 85% rayon, 15% polyester & 70% rayon, 30% tencel.
