With the “Papillon” (French for “butterfly”) logo, Needles have found their enduring, if unlikely, symbol. Whereas other labels with animal logos choose to animate them as characters, the Needles Papillon remains elusive, maintaining the mysticism and allure associated with butterflies. This season’s collection contains a number of garments adorned with the Papillon, putting the label’s chosen silhouettes into flight.
Needles eccentricity as a label is not a result of them creating outlandish designs, but something that only becomes apparent between the different pieces in their collections. The Needles Sportswear W.U. Piping Jacket takes a silhouette that has become a staple for the Japanese label and render it with a unique all-over seasonal pattern.
This light jacket features tape piping—alluded to in its name—around the cuffs and continuous tape piping that runs from the bottom hem up either side of the front zip closure around the stand-up collar and back again. Most strikingly, the Needles Sportswear W.U. Piping Jacket features an all-over Papillon pattern formed of dots, lending the piece a unique textural appearance.
