The Collaboration
It is not surprising that Needles founder Keizo Shimizu should have an affinity for Dr. Martens. Though often said to incorporate Americana influenced designs into a contemporary idiom via traditional Japanese textiles and design principles, Shimizu’s collection reach to mid-twentieth century Britain as much as to early 20th century America. In recent years Dr. Martens has fostered a generative collaborative relationship with the sought-after Japanese label, who, in past collaborations have taken the classic 1460 boot and moulded it to their vision, all while maintaining its most iconic elements.

The Shoe
This collaboration sees Shimizu and Needles approach a new Dr. Martens shape: the 2976 Chelsea Boot. With its stripped-down laceless appearance, the 2976 here in the Cherry Red colourway proves the perfect canvas for Shimizu’s label. Needles make the most of the laceless vamp, attaching a brushed silver Needles tassle across the front of the shoe. Constructed to the highest standards in Dr. Martens’ Made in England factory, this shoe also features a black smooth leather upper; silver screen-printed Needles Papillon logo on the side; black leather lining; iconic Dr. Martens black & yellow heel loop; the iconic yellow welt stitch; a dual-branded mie sock liner; and the classic Dr. Marten’s translucent outsole.
