N. Hoolywood’s Compile line is a recent initiative from the label focused on producing staples with unparalleled versatility. Originally conceived in response to the gradual casualization of business attire, the line has resulted in garments that achieve a certain level of formality by sheer quality of design and manufacturing, rather than by appealing to accepted visual notions of authority. Garments in the Compile line translate across contexts.
At the core of N Hoolywood’s Compile line have been their oversized ‘Big Shirts.’ Blowing out the formal dimensions of the business shirt and approaching outerwear in shape and function, this long-running series of pieces test the often ambiguous boundaries that distinguish one type of garment from another.
This season’s iteration of N. Hoolywood’s ‘Big Shirt’ silhouette comes in the way of the N. Hoolywood Box shirt. Cut from a heavy poly-wool blend fabric, this versatile piece challenges a supposed demarcation between shirting and outerwear. Drop shoulders, and an oversized collar, give the Box shirt slightly exaggerated features softened by its rounded shape. This oversized garment also features a shirt hem, single cuffs, and the black woven N. Hoolywood label attached to the left cuff.
