Since their foundations were laid in 2012, Munich-based record label, apparel maker, and collaborative hub Public Possession have pursued constant evolution. Now a sprawling interdisciplinary project, PP have developed an ecstatic and elastic aesthetic, with a love of typography and playful cartoon graphics shining through.
This first collection from Public Possession to be stocked at Double Double sees the label pursue simple motifs in alternatively rich and exuberant colourways. Paradoxically, the more seasoned the label has become in terms of its cohesiveness of vision, the more they are able to evoke a kind of mischievous innocence. This is clothing made for moving bodies on the dancefloor.
The Dreams Tee comes with no hidden agenda, though there is some light trickery at play. The typographic rendering of the word ‘Dreams’ screen-printed on the chest suggests a level of irony, but no other element of the tee confirms this. There’s a soft illusion here, just as in those haunting visions of possibility that we call dreams. Colour does as much to engender this piece’s emotive response as the graphic, its deep orange ochre eliciting the kind of warmth that we find in those most deep-rooted, foundational fantasies.
Cut from soft organic cotton jersey and silkscreen-printed in Germany, this tee also features a ribbed crew neckline.
