Luxury sportswear tends not to aspire to performance. In fact, the simultaneous affirmation of a sportswear aesthetic and denial of performance is often how luxury brands have distinguished themselves from the rest of the field. This is what makes Stone Island such a welcome outlier. The Italian label has gained a reputation not just for employing performance, but for redefining it, with experimental research fabrics intended to enhance pieces in function and aesthetic. In their latest collection, the luxury sportswear experimentalists explore the unique textures of new and classic materials developed in-house, drawing from each a unique tonal range through a combination of their trademark dyeing processes.
Incorporating leisure and military styles in equal measure, the Stone Island Fleece Sweatpants has long been a staple for the innovative Italian label. With the Stone Island treatment, the most simple of pieces become showcases for the label’s experimental dyeing and manufacture practices. This cargo-style sweatpant has been treated to Stone Island’s unique garment dye process, essential to the slightly worn look and feel achieved in their range of brushed cotton fleece pieces. Here in the classic black colourway, these sweatpants also feature include in-seam side pockets; one black welt pocket with hidden zip closure; patch pockets on the legs with flap and velcro closure; elasticated waist with adjustable drawstring; ribbed cuffs at the leg openings; and the Stone Island compass patch affixed to the left cargo pocket.
