Every season, Italian label Stone Island endeavour not just to employ performance, but to redefine it. In pursuit of such ambitious aims, the label—whose research & development department has become legendary—utilize in-house research fabrics that enhance their garments across axes of function and aesthetic. In their latest collection, the luxury sportswear experimentalists explore the unique textures of new and classic materials developed in-house, drawing from each a unique tonal range through a combination of their trademark dyeing processes.
One of the defining design principles of Italian label Stone Island’s approach is that a quest for innovation in simplicity must accompany their fabric research and development. It is the very high-performing materials for which they are known that allow them to distill pieces down to previously unseen foundational elements. By doing so, they unearth a kind of elegant simplicity. The Stone Island Vintage Canvas Jacket puts this philosophy into practice. This piece is constructed from Stone Island’s brushed cotton canvas: a textured, sturdy, and hardwearing fabric. This piece has been treated with the label’s trademark ‘Old’ effect, a garment dye process that results in pieces with a slightly worn and textured appearance.
Here in the black colorway, the Stone Island Vintage Canvas Jacket borrows from the European worker’s jacket and the classic parka silhouette, blending the two to striking effect. The Stone Island finesse is apparent in this piece’s front panel construction, the final touch to which is a standing pocket at the seam of the left chest panel with hidden zip closure. This season highlight jacket also features two bellow hand pockets with boxy flap and three-snap fastening; tightening snap at cuffs; horizontal back yoke; snap-fastened interior pocket; and front button closure. The piece is finished with the iconic Stone Island ‘Compass Rose’ patch attached to the left shoulder.
