Every season, Italian label Stone Island endeavour not just to employ performance, but to redefine it. In pursuit of such ambitious aims, the label—whose research & development department has become legendary—utilize in-house research fabrics that enhance their garments across axes of function and aesthetic. In their latest collection, the luxury sportswear experimentalists explore the unique textures of new and classic materials developed in-house, drawing from each a unique tonal range through a combination of their trademark dyeing processes.
One of the defining design principles of Italian label Stone Island’s approach is that a quest for innovation in simplicity must accompany their fabric research and development. It is the very high-performing materials for which they are known that allow them to distill pieces down to previously unseen foundational elements. By doing so, they unearth a kind of elegant simplicity.
The Stone Island Overshirt is a perfect example of this approach in practice. This piece is constructed from Stone Island’s ‘Naslan Light’ fabric: a durable, light, and abrasion-resistant, specifically engineered nylon fabric. This fabric is woven using a unique process in which the nylon filaments are steamed as they are spun, lending the material an appearance and makeup closer to that of organic fibre, without losing the performance advantages of nylon. Here in the seasonal light green colourway, this piece features press studs at the cuffs, two-way front zip closure, classic collar, a single bellows pocket on the chest with flap and hidden snap fastening, and epaulettes on the shoulders. The piece is finished with the Stone Island compass patch affixed to the left epaulette.
Made in Romania from 100% polyamide/nylon.
