The new collection from Undercover was the first to be designed from Jun Takahashi’s home, while under a nationwide lockdown in April 2020. Rather than imbue the collection with the panic of the catastrophic crisis in the world outside, Takahashi used his creative outlet as a way of imagining beyond it. The result is a collection that breathes with the continuity of previous Undercover seasons, with trademark prints taking aim at common objects of modern life and pop-cultural icons alike. Despite this continuity, for Takahashi, there is no returning to before the pandemic, stating in interview, “I cannot return to the life I had before. I must continue to push forward down the path that is unique for Undercover. Make a new life. Make new noise.”
Though the Undercover name has become synonymous with high-concept collections, theatrical runway shows, and high-profile pop-culture collaborations, high-quality, everyday staples form just as important a part of their oeuvre, providing the ideal canvas for Jun Takahashi’s provocative graphics.
Here in the black colourway, the Undercover Roses Tee is a staple short-sleeve tee featuring a seasonal floral wreath graphic screen-printed on the front. Within the wreath, the following words appear: ‘I don’t have any heroes. They’re all useless.’ Indeed, in the covid era, more than ever before, elites from all domains have well and truly proved themselves incapable or unwilling. Cut from soft cotton jersey, this short-sleeve tee also features a ribbed crew neckline.
Made in Japan from 100% cotton.
