Tokyo-based label Wacko Maria have built a reputation on reliability, developing a brand identity at the intersection of subcultural influences ranging from rockabilly, to motorcycle culture, to 70s cinema. The iconoclastic label has also developed a long list of innovative collaborations. This season sees the return of the coveted short-sleeve shirts made in collaboration with Jean-Michael Basquiat’s estate, alongside graphics and prints from longtime Wacko collaborator tattooist Tem Lehi.
No label has been more dedicated to the exploration of rockabilly aesthetics than WACKO MARIA. In their latest collection, this dedication culminates in the WACKO MARIA 50’s Shirt SS (Type 2). Inspired by the bowling shirts adopted by the rockabilly subculture, this short-sleeve shirt features a stylised Wacko Maria embroidery on the back.
